ABOUT FRANK BERTRAND STATON AND THIS EVENT.
This golfing event began with modest goal of Knight Frank B Staton and the Knights supporting one (1) elementary school in the 76104 zipcode area. The Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School was selected as the original benefiting organization. Being a educator and mentor to many, Brother Knight – Frank B Staton voiced the need for a scholarship that awards and focuses attention upon educational achievement and excellence in our inner city schools and educational institutions.
His desire was not only to focus on needs-based awards but to promote high achievement scholarship, leadership, and community service. To this day our scholarship award evaluation remains true to the 3 pillars Frank articulated so well during the inception of this event. 1) Recognize students at an early age. “These are our future community leaders and we should encourage and reward them” Frank B Staton said during the inaugural presentation of this award in 2005 at Our Mother of Mercy Church, a Historic African-American Catholic church & community steeped in a tradition of producing community leaders. 2) Promote and encourage exceptional educational achievement 3) Promote and encourage community involvement and leadership. These last 2 element develop the community leaders of tomorrow.
The number of schools impacted has grown from one school (that of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School ) to include several inner-city schools, a High School, and a Educational Foundation in the Fort Worth Community. This golf event provides the Knights with the opportunity to continue the recognition, encourage, and support, at an early age, our of future leaders. The list of scholarship award recipients beginning in 2005 is long and distinguished. Congratulations to all of recipients of the Frank B Staton Award as presented by the Knights of Peter Claver Council 89 Fort Worth organization and thanks to the many donors and sponsors over the years.
